Karel Houtzager is a 23-year old pianist based in Zwolle with a background in classical music. After studying classical music until the age of 18, he delved into jazz. During his jazz studies, he expanded his intersts into funk, pop and hip-hop.

As a versatile and widely deployable pianist, Karel has developed into a musician capable of performing in various styles. In addition to being a pianist, he is also active as a composer and arranger. His wide range of musical influences is evident in his compositions and co-writing for Swagworld and Mosaic trio.

Karel describes himself as a genre-bending pianist, not wanting to be limited to just one style. He enjoys mixing influences to create a sound that feels fresh and unique.

Besides his performance career, he is also a teacher,  giving private lessons.
